Senior Centers

Senior Centers act as a community resource and conduits to other services available to Connecticuts’ older adults. They offer a central location where you can receive information and services of interest.

Many Centers are designated by their Area Agency on Aging as community focal points which provide a comprehensive delivery of services that are essential for maintaining health, independence and well-being for older adults.

These multi-purpose centers can offer information on aging, offer support for caregivers, train professional, para-professionals and students by developing innovative approaches to address the issues of aging. All Senior Centers strive to prevent isolation and encourage socialization.

Services available at senior centers may include one or all of the following:
• Promotion of Health and Wellness
• Social Services
• Transportation
• Meals and Nutrition Education
• Recreation and Education
• Volunteer Opportunities
• Frail or Special Needs programs

Each community determines the age for participation at its senior centers. Most require persons to be 60 years of age or older. Some programs offered at centers require donations or fees, and others may be offered at no cost.
